Learning From Their Journey
Lesson #6
It Takes Two To Tango
By Bishop Randy Barnett
Anyone with any knowledge of God whatsoever knows that Almighty God is quite capable of dividing the waters of the Red
Sea without the help of anyone. After all, He is God and He had unquestionably demonstrated that fact by the tremendous
signs He did in Egypt. So the question begs to be answered, “Why does God have Moses stand there with is hand
outstretched over the sea?”

Some may find it difficult to grasp, but actually it was necessary for God to have Moses' assistance. Of course He had
sufficient power to handle the matter alone, to that there is no question; however, there is another truth that we (the
covenant people of God) must understand. To develop this truth we must re-wind the hands of time back to the creation of
the earth; there we learn this important truth. Let’s look at the following passage to discover God’s original purpose in
creating man.

Genesis 1:27-28 “The God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the
fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on
the earth.’ Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have
dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’”

The Sovereign King of the universe chose to incorporate His creation man into His plan for the earth. God designed man
after Himself – to look like Him and to be like Him. He then chose to set
His special creation in an exalted position over the
earth and delegated to Him His authority to rule the planet. God literally handed over dominion of the earth to man. (See
Psalm 8:4-8) With this truth in mind let us return now to Moses at the shore of the Red Sea and perhaps we will understand
what role he played in this awesome miracle.

The deliverance of the children of Israel was a foregone conclusion in the mind of God since He knows even the end from
the beginning. (Isaiah 46:10) He led the people to this place and He had planned the parting of the Red Sea at the foundation
of the world – at the same time He set man in his position of authority. Therefore, here on the shore of the Red Sea God
submitted Himself to His own plan and to His own Word. Man, to whom He gave authority, had to therefore be involved in
this great event, thus we see Him instruct Moses to participate. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that the power to divide
a sea of water did not generate from within Moses; however, the power of God did in fact flow through Him that day to
accomplish the plan of God. So it does through you!

Here we see how God operates with man. He sets the stage and then He empowers His chosen one(s) to act on His behalf to
fulfill His plan and carry out His will. This incident with Moses is not an isolated event to exalt this historic figure but rather
an example (I Corinthians 10:11) of how God works through man. Can we not see that God operated in like manner
throughout the pages of the Bible: with Abraham, David, the prophets, Jesus, Mary, the twelve disciples, and with Paul and
Philip and others? Will we learn from this? For the will of God to be done in your life, you must be very involved for God
does operate separate and apart from you but rather through you. Look at two Scriptures that affirm this dynamic truth:

Ephesians 3:20 “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that
works in us.”

Mark 11:23 “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not
doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done; he will have whatever he says.”

God does not tell you to step back and just let Him handle the problem you face, no indeed! He declares His power is in you
to deal with it. He says it is your voice that moves the mountain, not His! He provides the power; you provide the vehicle by
which the power flows. He declares to you that whatever you bind on earth He will bind in heaven. (
Matthew 18:19) You
know it is His power that is doing the stuff, but He needs you to be the instrument through which He releases His power. As
you can see from this simple study, “
it takes two to tango ” - God and you! Rejoice that there is literally nothing impossible
when you and God work together!

Exodus 14:21, 27
“Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by
a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided….
And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea
returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the
